Special Guest:  JIMMY NELSON

Jimmy Nelson was with us and gave a talk on the 10th of November, the last day of the exhibition.

Dutch-English photographer Jimmy Nelson has spent years traveling the globe in a quest to document the world’s most fantastic indigenous cultures before they and their way of life disappear. Whether in Papua New Guinea or in Kazakhstan, in Ethiopia or in Siberia, tribes are the last resorts of natural authenticity.

After Cologne, New York, Dubai, Birmingham and Tunis, we are proud to announce that Remotexpeditions together with Atlas of Humanity showcased in Paris – the city that saw the birth of photography almost two centuries ago – during Paris Photo days, 8-10 November 2019. Eric Lafforgue, David Lazar, Réhahn, John Kenny, Trevor Cole, Alessandro Bergamini, Marinka Masséus and other 50 international photographers will showcase the richness and diversity of world’s ethnic cultures that form the great mosaic of humanity. The portraits and the daily moments captured by these established authors or curious amateurs provide a glimpse into the vanishing cultures of people who are striving to hold onto their heritage in a rapidly-changing world.

Based on the UNESCO definition, cultural diversity is a trait which represents “the common heritage of humanity and should be recognised and affirmed for the benefit of future generations”. Martin Vegas, founder and curator of Atlas of Humanity, is working since 2015 with more than 100 photographers from 5 continents to build a collection of photographic essays celebrating this defining characteristic of humanity and preserving the record for future generations.

Atlas of Humanity held at Galerie Joseph Le Marais, a few steps from the Place des Vosges in the very heart of the Marais district in Paris. Le Marais is one of the coolest quarters and a dream place for art lovers. The French capital has a flourishing art scene, and a walking tour through the Marais district provides an exciting glimpse of some of the best art galleries.
